What Can & Can't Go in a Dumpster in Colorado?
A clear list of what's allowed and what's banned from a dumpster rental in Colorado, plus where banned material actually needs to go instead.

Most household and construction debris is fine in a standard dumpster load. A short list of materials is banned from ordinary landfill disposal under Colorado rules, and it's worth knowing before the container arrives.
What's fine, mixed together
Wood, drywall, flooring, tile, furniture, general household junk, yard debris, roofing shingles and small appliances can all go in together in a standard mixed load. Breaking down bulky items before they go in makes a real difference to how much fits.
What needs to be kept separate
Heavy, dense material — concrete, brick, block, stucco and fill dirt — needs its own dedicated, clean load rather than mixing with general debris. It hits the weight allowance long before it fills the box, and keeping it separate also means it can go to a recycler instead of the landfill.
What's banned outright
Paint, solvents and oils in liquid form; tires; batteries; hazardous chemicals; propane tanks and gas cylinders; medical waste; and asbestos-containing material are all prohibited from a standard container. Refrigerant-containing appliances (refrigerators, freezers, AC units) need the refrigerant professionally recovered before disposal.
Where banned items actually go
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment publishes statewide guidance on solid waste and hazardous materials disposal, and most communities have a household hazardous waste collection point or event for exactly this kind of material. Call us and we'll point you to the right place rather than let it become a problem later.
When in doubt, ask
It costs nothing to ask whether something can go in before the container arrives, and a lot more to sort it out afterward if it can't. If you're unsure about an item, call us before it goes in.
